OVERVIEW:
This archive exists to increase recognition of the role textiles and fiber processes play in our social fabric. It aims to counteract the historical marginalization of textile studies in academic institutions, and its undervaluation in society.
GOALS:
- Provide a platform for critical engagement around the topics of clothing/textiles
- Enable cross disciplinary approaches and understandings of textile-related processes
- Promote new and expanded contexts for where textile work lives
- Recognize the diverse cultures involved in textile-making
- Break down gendered/colonial assumptions around the study of clothing and textiles to support a more inclusive community of scholars/makers
- Create a collective canon that can serve as a meaningful resource for scholars and practitioners
